Furnishing and Equipping Budget $7.5 Million/ Progress: 25%
The expansion, with a total built-up area of 5500 Sqm, was the first phase of the $8.5-million project for this hospital. By August 2017, UNOPS completed furnishing and equipping 30 patients’ beds with all ancillaries, the emergency department, operation rooms, and neonatal and intensive care units.
The second phase of this project is the renovation of the existing hospital, with total built-up areas of (4500 Sqm.), which UNOPS started providing furniture to in April 2019. The renovated hospital will be supplied with 60 patients’ beds, 10 Pediatric beds, fluoroscopy, laboratory equipment and new medical equipment, furniture, and sterilization equipment.
In addition, USAID collaborated with the Government of Jordan to renovate 25 maternal, neonatal ICU, and emergency departments at Al Bashir, Jordan’s largest public hospital, to cope with the estimated 25% increase in population in Jordan. The new 2,000 Sqm. emergency building, constructed at $23 million and funded by USAID, deals with around 50,000 cases per month.
Therefore, UNOPS was requested to equip the hospital with the latest and most advanced medical equipment, radiology equipment, 147 emergency bed and 30 patients’ beds in order to accommodate the large and growing number of patients, and further upgrade and regulate services according to best international standard.
